Speculative reconstruction of launching Dimorphodon macronyx for “All Yesterdays: The LITC Contest” - [link]
Dimorphodon is small, early Jurassic pterosaur with wingspan of about 1.40 meter. It’s easily recognizable for its head, relatively small wings and long tail.
Here, I depicted Dimorphodon with speculative, low keratinous crest which extends from the top of the skull along its length, and dewlap with scaly integument.
Since the point of the contest is not only to depict speculative behavior or anatomical features, but to create artistically unusual paleoart, I went with more impressionistic approach than my usual style, adding just a pinch of surrealism with the clouds resembling azhdarchis pterosaur. This silhouette is hinting at the future of Pterosauria, when true giants will rule the skies.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it! Though the execution could have been better, mostly in regards of the head. I don't know, it could be just me.
Have no idea actually. Personally I haven't seen any other on DA besides mine. In her post above, Emily said this is probably the first entry for LITC's contest she has seen. I think the apparent lack of entries (for now) for this contest is due to the higher difficulty level of it. The stylistic requirement makes things more complicated.
BTW, for this contest you have the right to submit only one artwork. Take your time, and think well your concepts. Don't make my mistake to submit as quickly as you can.
